Cold Weather Hair Care

It’s official, the winter season is upon us. Chilly days and blustery nights can be fun for wardrobe changes (coats, yay!), but not necessarily for your hair.

The environment has a tendency to do a number your tresses, especially in the winter because people forget to take the proper precautions to protect their hair. Sun exposure combined with winter wind, snow, rain and icy cold quickly turns hair from beautiful to brittle and dry. And when you’re cozied up in your home, running indoor heating does damage too. It’s like spending your whole afternoon under a hair dryer – ouch!

So how do you keep your hair rich and luxurious from the first snow to the last?

-If you have thick or curly African-American hair, use a deep conditioning treatment, like LiQWd Silk (packed with quiona proteins to moisturize each strand) and leave it on for about half an hour, once or twice a week. Apply products 2 inches from the scalp (because these hair types hold oil at the root) and work it though to the ends.

-If you have fine or thin hair, use a regular conditioner (like our Hydrating Conditioner) every time you wash and use a light leave-in conditioner spray for back up. Don’t overdo it; fine/thin hair types go limp very quickly.

-Blow dry your hair as little as possible during the cold months. If you have to use a dryer, try to use the ‘cool’ setting. Try to limit other hot tool use as well–crimping, flat ironing, curling. Try sponge rollers for waves and holiday ringlets.

-On windy days cover your hair with a hat or scarf. This shields your tresses from snarls and disheveled lengths often caused by wind.

We’re Seeing Red

Is it just us or does it seem that red hair is all the rage right now? Celebs are obsessed with it. The color recently ruled the runway. And now even one of our own team members is thinking about going red!

The Facts (in red):

-1-2% of the population are natural red heads (so we won’t judge if you fake it).

-In countries like India and Bangladesh women use henna or saffron to give their hair a bright red appearance.

-Renaissance painters were fascinated with red hair. Botticelli depicted the mythical goddess, Venus as a redhead.

Obviously this brazen hue is nothing new. The 1920’s silent-film actress Clara Bow was a ginger pioneer, showing off a head full of red curls at every opportunity; the same goes for Lucile Ball and Rita Hayworth. But now-a-days ginger beauties are trying it all and not sticking with one shade of red. Screen darling Emma Stone displays a deep auburn, which is ideal for the girl who’s looking for a subtle change. Mad Men vixen, Christina Hendricks flaunts an orange-red that complements her milky complexion oh so well. And how can we not highlight Rihanna and her deep red locks? This look is definitely for ladies looking to own the room.

Short, long, straight, curly, bangs, pony, messy, choppy–we’re obsessed!

Everything’s set: the time, the place, what you’re wearing. You might even have practiced your most charming gestures. But what you haven’t thought about is your hair. Don’t wait until the last minute to address your ‘do, it’ll stress you out and might leaving you feeling insecure from start to finish.

As usual, we’re here to help you out and offer up a few tips on first date hair. You want to impress your date with your keen sense of style, but you also want to build a bit of mystery around yourself. Follow these tips and you’re sure to get a call the next day. You’re welcome.

Tip 1: Don’t over ‘do it.
Men hate the high-maintenance look. If you’re hair looks stiff, he’ll think you’re stiff too. If you want to add personality, incorporate a “headband braid” (see below).

Tip 2: Deep condition with Silk Professional Deep Conditioning Treatment before you go.

Clean, shiny tresses translates to clean and put together girl–someone he wants to get to know better. He probably won’t be able to stop admiring the gorgeous glow that Silk gave you and he’ll be enamored by the scent.

Tip 3: Save the curls for another time.
Like overdone ‘dos, tons of curling iron ringlets can seem like too much for a first date. You want to wow him, but not make him think you’re auditioning for DTWS

Tip 4: Experiment with a effortless updo.
You’ll add some mystery if you show up with a chic bun (see below), soft makeup and a stunning pair of earrings. And next time wear your hair down…he’ll be stunned at how gorgeous you look when you let lose.

Tip 5: When in doubt rock a side-pony.
The side-pony can go from sweet to sexy with little effort. It’s a sultry style that requires nothing more than a little patience. Add some soft waves (see below) and you’re set.

Three fool-proof first date looks:

Get the Look: The Perfect Pony

With Autumn weather settling in, your mornings are a little more foggy (literally and figuratively). We can’t make you a fresh pot of coffee in the AM, but we can help you achieve a super-sleek ‘do that will carry you from day to night.

The trick to this look is SLiQWd. Squeeze a dime-size amount of the product into your palm and smooth your hair back. Don’t forget to sweep up those fine hairs that like to linger in the back. Brush your locks into place (you won’t have fly-aways, by the way) and pull your hair to the center of your head. Secure with a hair tie–we’re fans of the non-snag set. Now that your pony is perfectly into place, add a little bit more SLiQWd to your hair–to lock it in. That’s it. Sounds easy, but it’s actually a science. The non-sticky product uses those Nano-Hydraspheres to bond your strands together for a sleek, sophisticated look.

Pair this no-fussy pony with oversized diamonds, hoops, an intricate necklace or clean make-up and you have a look that’ll last. Take that morning frizz.

You know Giuliana. Giuliana Rancic, host of E! News. Well the brunette beauty shared a litle something with one of her devoted FitFabFun readers today. Featured on today’s “Ask G.” column was, yes, you guessed it us! Giuliana grouped LiQWd among the best at-home Keratin Treatments.

Here’s what she said at LiQWd Q-Keratin Shampoo, Conditioner and Longevity Serum: “This delicious-smelling combo is enriched with quinoa protein and keratin to smooth, strengthen, and nourish hair. The sulfate-free formulas work to enhance and extend salon keratin treatments.”

Needless to say, we’re flattered.
