Styles to Try in 2012

It’s a new year. That means it’s time for a new look, right? Or at least a little change. The upcoming year is full of exciting new styles to try. Think of it like this: 2012 hair takes some of the most iconic styles of the 20th century and refashions them to fit today’s woman. We’ve picked out a few of our favorites (and some of the most doable) looks to share with you. From the faux bob to the center part, the underlooped pony tail to the afro, this year promises to be an
adventure of hair from beginning to end.

Faux Bob:
The best thing about this pulled together ‘do is you don’t have to chop your locks to sport a high-fashion style bob. Channel the vintage vibe of Mad Men’s Betty Draper as you borrow from the 60’s with perfectly pinned and coiffed hair.

Rocakbilly Hair:
A homage to American style, these looks showed up on the catwalk last fall as a “must” for spring 2012. The look include bouffant pony and pigtails, poufs and lots of holding spray. The looks are dramatic, but can be toned down for everyday wear.

Side-pinned Waves:
This look grabs its inspiration from the thirties. It’s a simple combination of sexy waves and girlish accent. With a side-part, soft waves and a barrette pinned on one side the look is cool, easy to achieve and has the potential to turn you into a vintage vixen. Side-pinned waves are ideal for long hair, but work perfectly with short and mid-length cuts also.

Chignon with Side-waves:
The chignon is already a classy look and doesn’t require much dazzling, but pair it with a few loose side-waves. Another look that’s paired with a sweeping side part, requires you to leave some hair loose to create an effect with the hair–it’s a different look depending on the angle you view it from.

Cute in 15 Minutes or Less

Short on time, but big on style. That’s the conundrum you face–every single day. Luckily there are some styles that let you amp up your look in 15 minutes or less. And since we’re all about efficiency and punctuality, we’d argue that these hairdos are ideal for achieving smashing results and allowing you to get to work with enough time to prep for that AM meeting.

Top Bun: Smooth your hair with a dime-size amount of SLiQWd and pull into a pony at the crown of your head. Gently twist the hair so the bun will be “full.” Next, wrap the hair around the elastic and secure with bobby pins. Spray some Professional Working Spray and you’re good to go.

The Messy Side Braid: Spray a little LiQWd Volumizing Catalyst on your locks before you blow dry. Once the hair is dry, create a deep side part and set out a few face framing bits. Take the remaining tresses and braid at an angle, starting at the nape of the next and moving from one side to the other. Tease (or curl) those lose pieces in the front for the tousled effect. Lastly, gently loosen the braid with your fingers.

The (Glam) Pony: Pull your hair into a slick pony (secure with an elastic that’s the same color as your hair). Use a bit of Longevity Serum to tame flyaways, up top and underneath. Next add a few soft curls to your pony for volume and a little added style. If you have fringe this look is especially sweet and seductive.

The Wavy Bob

The wavy bob has really gotten some serious action lately. Naturally we’re all about it, because it’s a perfect excuse to use our Perfect Wave product. But aside from the obvious, we like the ease and the versatility of this look. The wavy bob can go from day-to-evening with minimal work. Some of our favorite celebs have been known to sport this look: Olivia Palermo, Heidi Klum, Charlize Theron, Lala Anthony, Reese Witherspoon. It’s quite the “it girl” look. So how do
you get it? Well if you have long locks, get ready to chop them off. Have your stylist trim your tresses to about an inch past your ears. Make certain the cut isn’t super-angled or severe, this is the beauty of this style–it’s soft, but edgy all in the same moment.

To get that great volume that these bobs seem to (always) have, dry your hair with cold air, which makes a style stay. Follow up with a curling iron–loosely wrap larger pieces of hair around the barrel of the curling iron for waves. That’s it. You’ll look like one of these ladies in no time.

Holiday Party Style

Who doesn’t love a joyous holiday celebration? We like them best when they’re filled with eggnog, candy cane cocktails, peppermint bark, sparkling frocks, dazzling bracelets–need we go on? We also love the fact that holiday parties give you a chance to be festive with your locks (and not worry about who’s saying you’re overdone). Rather than sport a traditional holiday look of curls and waves and elegant chignons, we’ve decided to show up to the party with a unique ladylike look–1960’s inspired hair. Check out some our favorite styles below:

*Tip to make any of these styles stay you’ll need to enlist our Professional Working Spray. It’ll keep any coif in tact.

Alicia Keys: Curly or Straight?

And so the debate continues, which looks better, curly or straight hair. We are fans of both. Especially on style chameleons like gorgeous songstress, Alicia Keys. When we first met Lady Keys back in 2001, she was sporting of-the-moment cornrows, but since then Alicia has let her hair down showing off some truly stunning styles–updos, braids, long locks, vintage waves, big curls and beyond. We want to know, how do you like her best, sleek and straight or wild and
curly?
