We loved last night’s 2010 Emmy Awards–the Glee-inspired performance opener was killer!
Dissecting all the looks the next day is a time-honored tradition (c’mon, guys, you don’t think we’re solely watching for the awards, do you?) and water-cooler debate over who looked best always rages. Last night was no exception; we monitored Twitter before and during the show, and comments on Claire Danes (a universal favorite!) and January Jones (hers was the most controversial look!) were blazing.
Beauty trends played it surprisingly safe. The two most popular looks were both very feminine: soft, loose waves, and tousled updos. The waves were universally gorgeous, but some of the updos looked a bit severe, especially on the younger actresses.
Our personal favorite beauty looks from the 2010 Emmys: Claire Danes, Sofia Vergara, Keri Russell, Dianna Agron and Christina Hendricks. Well done, ladies!

After an incredibly mild summer, August is now in full swing in Southern California! As a result, we’re suddenly grappling with scorching heat and surprising humidity–and having to adjust our hair routines accordingly.
When I had to attend an event yesterday, I wanted sleek hair free of even the merest hint of frizz, but I can’t stand using my flatiron during the summer. (Highlights, blowdrying, heat-styling..it all takes its toll!) So I pulled out my trusty Professional Smoothing Catalyst, which uses nano-hydraspheres to form a protective webbing around each strand, moisturize hair from the inside out, and keep it sleek and smooth.
Six hours, one outdoor cocktail reception, and many Lady Gaga-inspired twirls on the dance-floor later, my hair was still in perfect–frizz-free!–shape.
I’ve been turning a lot of friends onto LiQWD and its nanotechnology-based products recently (as a former beauty editor, on the rare occasions I find a brand I’m truly obsessed with, I sing its praises to high-heaven) but my final explanation is always the same: don’t bother listening to me babble about it. Try the line yourself and you’ll be hooked–because it honestly works.
This weekend, we attended the Breakthrough Awards in Hollywood, where 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord implored the celebrities in attendance to make a difference by supporting charities close to their hearts. (She works with the St. Bernard Project, which is rebuilding New Orleans and assisting Katrina survivors.)
Of course, young Hollywood has such a unique platform to help spread the word about great charities, so we were happy celebs like Audrina Patridge, Ali Fedotowsky, Garcelle Beauvais, Elise Neal and Bridget Marquardt turned out last night to support Dress for Success at the ‘Give & Get Fete‘, co-hosted by the Style network.
Dress for Success is an international non-profit organization founded in 1997 that helps economically disadvantaged women get back on their feet professionally by providing attire, a support network and career development tools. Find out more at DressForSuccess.org.
As the years pass, it’s not just skin that ages–your hair falls victim to father time, too!
Beyond the obvious change–those dreaded gray hairs–issues often include a rougher cuticle, coarser texture, thinning and dullness. One of the main problems is a slowdown in keratin production, causing weakness and breakage.
How to keep your hair looking 25 forever? Pump it full of amino-acids, proteins and moisture (since sebum production also slows with age).
LiQWDITY Intensive Hair Repair is an all-in-one powerhouse to keep hair tip-top, featuring Mango Seed Oil (which increases resistance to breakage), Apple Extract (both protects against and slows down the cellular changes associated with aging), Broccoli Seed Oil (a cold pressed oil filled with vitamins) and Grape Seed Oil (a potent antioxidant known to slow aging).
(All LiQWD products, meanwhile, feature nano-hydraspheres, which protect, moisturize and fortify from the inside-out.)
Remember, as well, to protect hair from stresses like heat-styling and UV damage. Check out SLiQWD, which has UV filters to seal in color and moisture, and includes Passionflower Glycerides to strengthen the hair’s matrix and protect against further oxidative damage.
An ounce of prevention is, of course, worth a pound of cure, so it’s never too late to protect your hair and ensure it looks great for years to come!
